LOL, TTYL, RFID?

Laugh out loud (LOL). Talk to you later (TTYL). What? You don’t know what RFID means?  Okay, I didn’t either. And I now know that I will not find it on my teenager’s phone when I secretly read his texts. (Did I just admit that out loud?) RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification.

So what is a radio frequency identification? This is sooo easy, I have two examples for you. 1. Have you ever seen the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie The Terminator? If so, you know his character had a tracking chip in his head. RFID? Okay, that example was extreme; so here’s another one. 2. You just got your family a new pet from the Humane Society and have been informed the animal has a chip implanted under its skin so if it gets lost, the people who find it can take the cat or dog in to be scanned and learn its history, like shots and who it belongs to so you can return it.

Okay, so what does all this have to do with Johnston Technologies? Everything. Johnston Technologies sell RFID (radio frequency identification) tags to companies who want to keep track of the assets in their data center. Tags are similar to barcodes, but unlike barcodes which need to be scanned one at a time, RFID tags can all be read (even if there are hundreds of them) at the same time.

Is your data center constantly growing (That’s a good thing.) and machines are getting shifted around to make room for new ones? If so, keeping track of your assets can get pretty difficult. By having Johnston Technologies affix RFID tags to your computer equipment, servers, etc, you will be able to track all of your inventory within seconds and know where each piece is located, thanks to the advanced RFID software Johnston Technologies provides for you.

The RFID tags that Johnston Technologies sells are actually passive radio frequency identification tags. Passive differs from active in the fact that they don’t run on a battery (so no replacing it every few years), they are a lot cheaper (WooHoo!) and they are much smaller.

The benefit of your company using Johnston Technologies passive RFID tags is that you can take inventory faster than Superman can fly around the globe. Seriously, you normally would need to spend an entire afternoon manually inputting information. Well, guess what, with RFID tags, you simply scan all of them in the room and all the information is automatically entered in the software. Easy Peasy as my kid would say.

Okay, so I know I didn’t go into major technical detail (And believe me I could have.). I just wanted to tell you like it is. If your business would like to know exactly what it has in its data center, and know quickly without spending a ton of time manually doing it, RFID tags are the way to go.

Give Johnston Technologies a call and see how their professionals can save you a ton of time…which means a ton of money when it comes down to it.  Hey, they you can install the tags quickly, and if your business expands, they can always be added to. How convenient is that? So give them a call and while you’re at it, ask about the Alaskan trip giveaway 10K2AK :-). Oh, and TTYL (That’s talk to you later. Remember?)
